The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has issued a stern warning to the Nigeria Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers (NUPENG), cautioning against any actions that could sabotage the operations of the Dangote Petroleum Refinery. The student body emphasized that the refinery represents a critical pillar of Nigeria’s economic future and must be protected from disruptive interests.

In a statement signed by NANS President, Comrade Pedro Obi, the association expressed concern over recent threats and industrial tensions involving NUPENG, which could potentially hinder the refinery’s output and destabilize fuel supply across the country.

“We will not sit idly while strategic national assets are weaponized for political or personal gain,” Obi declared. “The Dangote Refinery is not just a private venture—it is a national lifeline for millions of Nigerians.”

NANS called on NUPENG to pursue its grievances through dialogue and lawful channels, warning that any attempt to obstruct refinery operations would be met with nationwide student mobilization and resistance.

“We urge NUPENG to embrace responsible unionism,” the statement continued. “Sabotage is not negotiation—it is economic terrorism.”

The student body also appealed to the Federal Government to intervene swiftly and ensure that industrial relations around the refinery are managed with transparency and fairness. NANS reiterated its support for initiatives that promote job creation, energy independence, and national development.
