The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Kano State Strategic Command, has successfully intercepted a major consignment of illicit drugs following a road accident on the Zaria-Kano expressway near Gadar Tamburawa.
At approximately 6:00 a.m. on September 6, NDLEA operatives on routine patrol responded to a collision involving a Volkswagen Golf and a truck. Upon arrival, officers swiftly rescued the occupants of the Golf vehicle, removing its windscreen, window, and door to extricate the driver and passenger. The passenger attempted to flee the scene but was promptly apprehended by NDLEA personnel.
A subsequent search of the vehicle led to the discovery of 150 blocks and three sacks of cannabis sativa, weighing a total of 112 kilograms. Preliminary investigations revealed that the driver, currently receiving medical treatment, confessed to representing the consignor and admitted to making similar deliveries within and outside Kano. He also disclosed that he had been driving against traffic in an attempt to evade NDLEA checkpoints.
“This incident highlights two serious offenses—reckless driving and trafficking in narcotics,” said Mr. Sadiq Muhammad-Maigatari, Public Relations Officer of the NDLEA Kano Command. “Our officers demonstrated professionalism and urgency in both rescuing the victims and securing the illicit cargo.”
The State Commander, Mr. Abubakar Idris-Ahmad, reaffirmed the agency’s commitment to prosecuting those involved and commended the patrol team for their swift and effective response. He also praised the leadership of NDLEA Chairman, Brigadier General Mohammed Buba Marwa (Rtd), whose strategic direction continues to empower frontline operatives.
