President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has departed the nation’s capital, Abuja, en route to Ibadan, Oyo State, to attend the coronation ceremony of High Chief Rashidi Ladoja as the 44th Olubadan of Ibadanland. The historic event, scheduled to take place at the Mapo Hall ceremonial grounds, marks a significant moment in Yoruba traditional leadership and cultural heritage.
The President’s attendance underscores the importance of traditional institutions in Nigeria’s socio-political fabric and reflects his administration’s commitment to preserving and honoring indigenous leadership structures.
“President Tinubu recognizes the Olubadan stool as a symbol of unity, wisdom, and continuity,” said Chief Ajuri Ngelale, Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity. “His presence at the coronation is a tribute to Ibadan’s rich history and a gesture of solidarity with the people of Oyo State.”
High Chief Ladoja, a former governor of Oyo State and respected elder statesman, will be formally crowned following the completion of traditional rites, including the placement of Akoko leaves—a revered symbol of ancestral approval.
Dignitaries from across Nigeria, including governors, royal fathers, lawmakers, and cultural ambassadors, are expected to grace the occasion, which is anticipated to draw thousands of attendees.
