In a significant step towards restoring full democratic governance in Rivers State, Administrator Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas (rtd) has formally initiated the handover process to the duly elected Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, following directives from President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

The transition marks the end of the six-month emergency rule imposed in the state earlier this year amid political tensions. Vice Admiral Ibas, who was appointed as Sole Administrator to ensure stability and continuity in governance, has commended the resilience of the Rivers people and the collaborative efforts of all stakeholders during this period.

"I am proud to have served Rivers State during this challenging time," said Vice Admiral Ibas. "Our administration focused on maintaining essential services, upholding the rule of law, and fostering an environment conducive to peace and development. It is now time to hand over to the elected leadership, and I am committed to ensuring a seamless transfer of power."

President Tinubu's administration has emphasized the importance of democratic principles, ordering the preparation of comprehensive handover notes to facilitate Governor Fubara's return. The process includes the vacation of all emergency-era appointments and the reinstatement of legislative and executive structures as per constitutional provisions.

Governor Fubara, who was suspended earlier in 2025, expressed gratitude for the opportunity to resume his mandate. "This transition reaffirms our commitment to the people of Rivers State. Together, we will build on the foundations laid and drive sustainable progress for our beloved state," Fubara stated.

The handover is scheduled to be completed by the end of the week, with democratic institutions, including the State House of Assembly, set to reconvene shortly thereafter. Security measures have been enhanced to ensure a peaceful process.
