The All Progressives Congress (APC) has officially confirmed that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has re-nominated Vice President Kashim Shettima as his running mate for the 2027 general elections.

This decision puts to rest months of speculation and internal discussions within the party regarding the vice-presidential ticket. Today, President Tinubu’s completed Expression of Interest and Nomination forms, naming Vice President Shettima as the sole vice-presidential candidate, were formally submitted to the APC National Working Committee (NWC) at the Continental Hotel in Abuja.

The submission was received by APC National Chairman, Professor Nentawe Yilwatda, in the presence of key party leaders including Progressive Governors’ Forum Chairman Senator Hope Uzodimma and several state governors.

In a statement, the APC expressed strong confidence in the Tinubu-Shettima ticket, describing it as a proven partnership that delivered victory in 2023 and continues to drive Nigeria’s Renewed Hope Agenda. The party highlighted the complementary strengths of the duo both former governors and senators—as a rare and effective combination for national leadership.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu said: “Vice President Kashim Shettima has been a loyal, capable, and dedicated partner. Together, we have tackled economic reforms, infrastructure development, and security challenges with resolve. His retention reflects our commitment to continuity, stability, and delivering tangible results for all Nigerians.”

Vice President Kashim Shettima welcomed the announcement, reaffirming his dedication to the administration’s vision: “I am deeply honoured by the President’s trust and the party’s endorsement. We remain focused on building a stronger, more prosperous Nigeria for every citizen.”

The APC leadership described the retention as a strategic move that unifies the party and positions the ticket strongly ahead of the electoral cycle. Formal unveiling and further details will follow as the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) advances the 2027 election timetable.
