Vice President Kashim Shettima has departed Abuja for New York, United States, where he will represent President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and lead Nigeria’s delegation at the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA).

The Vice President’s itinerary includes participation in high-level meetings, bilateral engagements, and thematic dialogues focused on global peace, sustainable development, climate action, and economic cooperation. He is expected to deliver Nigeria’s national statement during the General Debate, highlighting the country’s commitment to multilateralism, inclusive growth, and regional stability.

“Nigeria remains a strong voice for Africa and the Global South. Our presence at UNGA reaffirms our dedication to global partnerships and domestic transformation,” Shettima said ahead of departure.

During his visit, the Vice President will also engage with international development partners, business leaders, and diaspora communities to promote Nigeria’s investment potential and showcase key reforms under the Renewed Hope Agenda.

Accompanying him are senior government officials, including ministers and special advisers, who will participate in sector-specific sessions on health, education, digital economy, and climate resilience.

The 2025 UNGA theme, “Building Trust and Reigniting Global Solidarity,” aligns with Nigeria’s strategic priorities in governance, peacebuilding, and sustainable development.
