President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has reaffirmed the pivotal role of traditional rulers in fostering national peace, stability, and grassroots development, calling for deeper collaboration between government and traditional institutions to advance Nigeria’s progress.
Speaking at the Presidential Villa during an audience with the Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Abimbola Akeem Owoade, and a delegation of traditional leaders from Oyo State, President Tinubu emphasized that traditional institutions are not only custodians of culture but also vital partners in governance and community engagement.
“The peace and stability of our nation requires inclusiveness. This job is not one you can do alone. We have to pull ourselves together to build a nation of prosperity,” said President Tinubu.
He praised Alaafin's ascendancy to the historic throne, describing it as a divine alignment of tradition and destiny. The President also commended the traditional council for its unity and discipline in the nomination and coronation process, following the passing of Oba Lamidi Adeyemi.
President Tinubu highlighted the contributions of sons of the Oyo Kingdom serving in his administration, including Ambassador Victor Adeleke and Colonel Nurudeen Alowonle Yusuf, noting their excellence and dedication as reflections of the values upheld by their heritage.
“Traditional rulers are central to promoting peace, resolving conflicts, and ensuring sustainable development at the grassroots level,” he added.
The Alaafin of Oyo, in his remarks, pledged the unwavering support of the traditional council in helping the President deliver his mandate. He expressed gratitude for the President’s recognition of the institution’s role and reaffirmed their commitment to unity and progress.
