The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has issued a stern warning to President Bola Tinubu, holding him personally responsible for the safety and well-being of former Kaduna State Governor, Mallam Nasir El-Rufai.
In a strongly worded statement, ADC National Spokesperson, Mallam Abdullahi, accused the Federal Government of orchestrating a political witch-hunt against El-Rufai and cautioned that any harm that befalls the former governor would be laid squarely at the doorstep of President Tinubu.
“We are watching closely. The ADC will hold President Bola Ahmed Tinubu responsible if anything untoward happens to Mallam Nasir El-Rufai,” Abdullahi declared. “This administration must desist from all forms of political persecution and allow El-Rufai to enjoy his fundamental rights as a citizen of Nigeria.”
The warning comes amid growing tensions and reports of alleged harassment and investigations targeting El-Rufai since he left office. The ADC described the situation as a dangerous precedent that threatens democratic norms and political tolerance in the country.
The party called on President Tinubu to immediately intervene and ensure that all actions of his government remain within the bounds of the law and respect for human rights. It also urged well-meaning Nigerians and the international community to monitor developments surrounding the former governor’s situation.
The ADC reiterated its commitment to defending democracy, the rule of law, and the protection of all citizens irrespective of political affiliation.
