The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has officially declared a two-week total and comprehensive warning strike across all public universities in Nigeria. The announcement was made by ASUU National President, Professor Chris Piwuna, during a press briefing held at the University of Abuja on Sunday, October 12, 2025.
The industrial action is set to commence at midnight on Monday, October 13, 2025, following the expiration of a 14-day ultimatum issued to the Federal Government on September 28, 2025. According to Professor Piwuna, the decision was reached after the government failed to meet critical demands outlined in ASUU’s National Executive Council (NEC) resolutions.
“Compatriots of the press, it goes without saying that there is nothing sufficient on ground to stop the implementation of the ASUU-NEC’s resolution to embark on a two-week warning strike,” Piwuna stated.
The union expressed disappointment over the government's handling of negotiations, stating that multiple attempts to engage in dialogue yielded no tangible results. ASUU reiterated its commitment to protecting the integrity of Nigeria’s tertiary education system and called on stakeholders to intervene urgently.
