The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has successfully recovered assets valued at over ₦500 billion since the inception of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration, according to Vice President Kashim Shettima.

Speaking at the opening ceremony of the 7th edition of a three-day capacity-building workshop for judges and justices, jointly organized by the EFCC and the National Judicial Institute (NJI) in Abuja, Shettima emphasized the administration’s commitment to transparency, accountability, and the rule of law. Representing President Tinubu at the event, the Vice President highlighted the administration’s policy of non-interference in the operations of anti-graft agencies as a key factor in the EFCC’s success.

“As an administration, we have prioritised public accountability by strengthening the anti-corruption agencies and giving them the needed independence to execute their statutory mandates,” Shettima stated.

In addition to the asset recovery milestone, Shettima revealed that the EFCC has secured over 700 convictions in the past two years, underscoring the agency’s effectiveness in combating corruption and financial crimes.

The Vice President praised the EFCC’s efforts in creating an enabling environment for justice and institutional integrity, noting that the recovered assets span various sectors and reflect the agency’s growing capacity to trace, seize, and repatriate illicit wealth.

The workshop, attended by members of the judiciary and legal experts, aims to enhance the understanding of financial crimes and improve judicial processes related to asset recovery and anti-corruption litigation.

This achievement marks one of the largest asset recoveries in the EFCC’s history and signals a renewed vigor in Nigeria’s anti-corruption drive under the Tinubu administration.
