The Kano State Hisbah Board has confirmed the arrest of 25 individuals in connection with an alleged same-sex marriage ceremony held at Fatima Event Centre in the Hotoro Bypass area of Kano metropolis. The arrests were made on Saturday, October 25, following a tip-off from concerned residents.
According to Dr. Mujahid Aminuddeen Abubakar, Deputy Commander General (Special Operations) of the Hisbah Board, the suspects — comprising 18 males and 7 females — were apprehended during a late-night raid on the venue. The gathering was reportedly organized to celebrate a union between two men, one of whom was identified as Abubakar Idris, allegedly the groom.
“Our personnel stormed the venue and found a party in progress under dim lighting conditions,” Dr. Abubakar stated. “We will not fold our arms and allow such acts to tarnish the moral fabric of our society. Hisbah remains committed to upholding the values and religious principles of Kano State.”
The suspects hail from various parts of Kano, including Sheka, Yar Gaya, and Kofar Nasarawa. They are currently in custody pending further investigation and possible prosecution under applicable laws governing morality and public conduct in the state.
