Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has launched a transformative menstrual health initiative in Anambra State, distributing 10,000 sanitary pad packs to teenage girls across selected schools. The program, titled “Flow with Confidence”, is part of the Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI) aimed at promoting menstrual hygiene, dignity, and empowerment among young Nigerian girls.
The Anambra leg of the nationwide campaign was flagged off at the Banquet Hall of the Light House in Awka, where Senator Tinubu was represented by Dr. Nonye Soludo, wife of the Anambra State Governor and state coordinator of RHI. The event drew participation from education stakeholders, health professionals, and hundreds of schoolgirls.
“This initiative is about restoring dignity and confidence to our girls,” said Dr. Soludo. “Menstrual health is not a luxury—it is a right. Through this program, we are ensuring that no girl misses school or feels ashamed during her cycle.”
The “Flow with Confidence” campaign will distribute a total of 370,000 sanitary pad packs across Nigeria’s 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory, with each state receiving 10,000 packs. The pads are designed to provide a one-year supply for each beneficiary, helping to reduce absenteeism and stigma associated with menstruation.
In addition to the pad distribution, the initiative includes menstrual health education, the establishment of pad banks in schools, and the training of Healthy Living School Ambassadors to sustain awareness and hygiene practices.
The First Lady’s office reaffirmed its commitment to supporting adolescent girls, especially in underserved communities, and called on public and private stakeholders to join in scaling the impact of the program.
