The Libyan Department for Combating Illegal Migration (DCIM), in collaboration with the Nigerian Consulate in Tripoli, has successfully deported 80 Nigerian nationals who were found to be residing illegally in Libya. The repatriation exercise was conducted on Wednesday, November 12, 2025, via Mitiga International Airport, as part of ongoing efforts to address irregular migration and decongest detention facilities across the country.

According to Migrant Rescue Watch, a humanitarian organization monitoring migrant welfare in Libya, the deportation followed judicial directives issued by the Libyan Judicial Police. The affected individuals had been held in various detention centers and were transferred under strict security protocols to Tripoli for their scheduled return flight.

The Nigerian Consulate played a pivotal role in ensuring that all returnees were properly documented and received consular support throughout the process. Officials from both countries emphasized that the operation was conducted in accordance with international standards for humane treatment and legal compliance.

A spokesperson from DCIM stated: “This repatriation is part of our broader strategy to manage migration flows and uphold Libyan immigration laws. We appreciate the cooperation of the Nigerian authorities in facilitating a smooth and dignified return for these individuals.”

The Nigerian government has reiterated its commitment to working with international partners to protect the rights of its citizens abroad while discouraging irregular migration. Plans are underway to provide reintegration support for the returnees upon arrival in Nigeria.

This latest deportation underscores the challenges faced by migrants in Libya and highlights the importance of coordinated international efforts to address the root causes of irregular migration.
