President Donald Trump has ordered the immediate recall of the United States Ambassador to Nigeria, Richard M. Mills Jr., along with 29 other career diplomats from senior embassy positions worldwide. This move signals a significant overhaul of U.S. foreign policy under the "America First" agenda.

The White House announced the recalls earlier today, affecting envoys in key regions. Africa faces the heaviest impact, with 13 ambassadors recalled from the continent, including Nigeria. Other affected countries span Europe, Asia, and Latin America. The administration aims to replace these diplomats with appointees who align more closely with President Trump's vision for international relations.

Sources within the State Department indicate that the recalls target career diplomats appointed during previous administrations.

This action continues Trump's pattern of reshaping diplomatic posts to prioritize U.S. interests, economic deals, and security alliances. "We are bringing our foreign policy home to serve American workers and families first," a White House spokesperson stated.

The recall of Ambassador Mills, who has served in Nigeria since 2023, comes amid ongoing discussions on trade, security, and energy cooperation between the U.S. and Nigeria. Nigerian officials have not yet responded publicly, but experts suggest this could temporarily strain bilateral relations.

President Trump has emphasized efficiency in diplomacy, criticizing what he calls "entrenched bureaucrats" in foreign missions. The administration plans to nominate new ambassadors swiftly, pending Senate confirmation.
