Sowore Can’t Use Statements I Took Back — Omokri Says

In response to recent public commentary by Mr. Reno Omokri, the camp of activist and political figure Omoyele Sowore asserts that the Nigerian public has grown weary of and cannot place reliance on inconsistent political narratives.

This position follows observations of Mr. Omokri’s recent withdrawal and disavowal of previous strong statements and positions he championed. This pattern, seen as emblematic of a broader trend in political discourse, underscores a critical issue: the erosion of trust when public figures frequently recant their own proclaimed convictions.

“The Nigerian people are astute and forward-looking,” a representative for Sowore stated. “They are building a future based on consistent principles, credible action, and unwavering commitment to truth and justice. They cannot build that future on a foundation of statements that are here today and withdrawn tomorrow. Reliability in word and deed is the minimum requirement for anyone seeking to engage in serious public discourse.”

Sowore, a longtime proponent of transparency and accountability, has consistently maintained that the nation’s political space must evolve beyond “statement-based” politics to one of “substance-based” action. The focus, he argues, must remain on tangible issues: economic justice, electoral integrity, security, and holding power to account.

“When individuals freely contradict their own past assertions, it creates a mobile goalpost that disorients public debate and serves only personal or transient political interests,” the statement continued. “Nigerians deserve better. They deserve leaders and commentators whose words have the weight of consistent principle behind them.”

This moment serves as a call for elevated public dialogue, where ideas are debated on their merit and advocates stand by their contributions with intellectual honesty
