The faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) led by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has announced that it anticipates the attendance of approximately 2,500 delegates at its highly anticipated National Convention scheduled for Sunday, March 29, and Monday, March 30, 2026.
Speaking after a final inspection of the Moshood Abiola National Stadium Velodrome in Abuja the designated venue for the event Wike confirmed that preparations are about 95 percent complete, with seating arrangements for all states finalized and the VIP section fully ready.
“We do not expect more than 2,500 delegates,” Wike stated, emphasizing the party’s readiness to host a successful convention as it positions itself strongly for the 2027 general elections.
The two-day gathering is expected to address critical party matters, including leadership transitions, with the National Caretaker Working Committee playing a central role.
Wike dismissed any legal challenges, including a Supreme Court appeal by the rival Tanimu Turaki-led group, asserting that such moves would have no impact on the proceedings.
He further reiterated the faction’s commitment to ongoing reconciliation efforts with aggrieved members, noting that these would continue after the convention to foster greater unity within the PDP.
“The PDP will shock Nigerians in 2027,” Wike declared, expressing confidence in the party’s ability to reclaim its position as a formidable force in Nigerian politics.
Stakeholders have described the convention as a pivotal moment for the opposition party, aimed at rebuilding internal cohesion and restoring public confidence ahead of future electoral battles.
All arrangements, including logistics and security, have been meticulously put in place to ensure a smooth and hitch-free event.
