Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, representing Kogi Central Senatorial District, has called on all leaders and members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to embrace reconciliation, unity, and collective purpose in the wake of the Court of Appeal's landmark judgment delivered on March 9, 2026.
The appellate court, in a unanimous decision, upheld the Federal High Court's earlier ruling that restrained the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) from recognizing the outcomes of the PDP's national convention held in Ibadan, Oyo State, on November 15–16, 2025. The judgment cited non-compliance with the party's constitution and subsisting court orders, effectively nullifying the convention and its elected leadership structures.
In a statement personally signed and issued today, Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan described the Appeal Court verdict as a defining moment and an opportunity for the PDP to heal internal divisions, rebuild stronger foundations, and refocus on its role as Nigeria's leading opposition party.
"The judgment of the Court of Appeal marks the end of one chapter of contention and the beginning of a new era of unity and progress for our great party," Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan stated. "It is time to bury the hatchet, set aside personal and factional interests, and come together as one family under the banner of the PDP. The challenges facing our nation demand a united, formidable opposition capable of offering credible alternatives to Nigerians in 2027 and beyond."
The Senator emphasized that the PDP's strength has always lain in its diversity and resilience, urging all stakeholders including governors, national and state executives, elders, and grassroots members to prioritize dialogue, mutual respect, and reconciliation efforts already underway among party leaders. This is not a time for further division or recrimination.
The judiciary has spoken, and we must respect its decision while channeling our energies into repositioning the PDP as a truly democratic, inclusive, and people-centered platform," she added. "I call on every PDP leader to rise above the fray, extend hands of fellowship, and work collaboratively to restore confidence, rebuild structures, and prepare for the task of rescuing and rebuilding Nigeria."
Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan commended party members for their steadfastness amid the leadership crisis and expressed optimism that the PDP would emerge stronger, more cohesive, and better equipped to serve the Nigerian people.
She concluded by reaffirming her commitment to the party's ideals and her readiness to support any genuine reconciliation process that advances unity and progress.
