In a landmark move aimed at consolidating the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) ahead of future electoral contests, the political faction loyal to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, His Excellency Barrister Nyesom Wike, has officially announced the resolution of all lingering internal disputes within its ranks.
Following a series of high-level consultative meetings chaired by senior stakeholders, the group issued a communiqué declaring an end to the intra-party conflicts that have characterized its relationship with the national leadership over the past years. The decision, effective immediately, signals a strategic shift toward unity and collective purpose.
Speaking to the press after the meeting in Abuja, the leader of the faction and former Governor of Rivers State, Barr. Nyesom Wike, stated that the move was necessitated by the need to prioritize the stability of the party and the interest of the Nigerian people over personal or sectional ambitions.
"After extensive consultations with our leaders, elders, and supporters across the country, we have resolved to close ranks and end all forms of internal wrangling," Wike said. "Politics is about development and the welfare of the people. We cannot afford to be distracted by disputes when Nigerians are looking up to the PDP to provide a credible and strong opposition. We have chosen the path of peace and stability."
The resolution comes as a significant development in the nation's political landscape, given the faction's influence in the party's structure. Key stakeholders present at the meeting acknowledged that the prolonged disagreements had been a source of concern for party members and had detracted from the PDP's ability to effectively challenge the ruling party.
"We have agreed to operate as a cohesive family," added a senior party chieftain from the faction who spoke on condition of anonymity. "The era of division and litigation is over. We are now fully committed to a united PDP. This decision is about the future; it is about 2027 and beyond."
Political analysts view this move as a calculated effort to strengthen the PDP's internal cohesion, potentially positioning the party as a more formidable force in the lead-up to the 2027 general elections. By mending fences, the Wike-led group aims to foster an environment conducive to dialogue, reconciliation, and strategic planning.
The communiqué issued at the end of the meeting urged all supporters and members to remain calm and law-abiding, assuring them that the faction remains dedicated to the core values of the PDP.
