Former Governor of Sokoto State and current Senator representing Sokoto South Senatorial District, Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, has formally withdrawn from the 2027 senatorial race under the platform of the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

Senator Tambuwal, widely regarded as a key leader of the ADC in Sokoto State, made the decision after extensive consultations with party stakeholders. He has ceded the party’s senatorial ticket to Ambassador Faruk Malami-Yabo, a former Commissioner for Finance, describing the move as a deliberate step to promote unity, harmony, and internal democracy within the party.

In his explanation, Tambuwal emphasized the need for experienced leaders to create space for emerging voices and fresh ideas in Nigeria’s political landscape. “The time has come for experienced leaders to deliberately create room for emerging voices and fresh ideas in the nation’s political space,” he stated.

He clarified that the withdrawal was not prompted by any internal cracks or divisions within the ADC but reflects a conscious commitment to leadership recruitment and grooming the next generation of leaders.

Senator Tambuwal stressed that stepping back from frontline contest in this race does not signal retirement from public service. Instead, he will focus on mentorship, guidance, and broader nation-building initiatives aimed at empowering young Nigerians in governance.

The Sokoto State Publicity Secretary of the ADC, Lamir Aminu, confirmed the development, noting that Tambuwal’s sacrifice was made in the interest of peace, stability, and strengthening the party ahead of the 2027 general elections.

This decision is expected to reshape political dynamics in Sokoto State and reinforce the ADC’s image as a party committed to inclusiveness and orderly leadership transition.

Senator Tambuwal remains fully committed to the ideals of the African Democratic Congress and the development of Sokoto State and Nigeria as a whole.
