Former Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Babachir David Lawal, has disclosed that at least five serving All Progressives Congress (APC) governors have personally reached out to him, appealing for his return to the ruling party.

Speaking in an exclusive interview, Lawal confirmed that the governors contacted him shortly after his resignation from the African Democratic Congress (ADC) on June 1, 2026. According to him, they asked: “Oga, are you coming back home now?”

Lawal resigned from the ADC, citing massive irregularities and manipulation in the party’s presidential primary, which he described as a “disgraceful charade” that heavily favored former Vice President Atiku Abubakar.

Despite the overtures from the APC governors, Lawal made it clear that he is not considering a return to the APC at this time. He noted receiving interest from multiple other political parties and commendations from high-profile individuals across the political divide.

“There are about five political parties that called me on Wednesday, saying they would hand over their platforms to me if I wanted,” Lawal said. “If you hear the calibre of people who have called to commend me, you won’t believe it... As we speak, about five or six APC governors... have reached out... but I am not considering a return at this moment.”

Lawal, a key architect of the 2013 merger that birthed the APC, served as SGF under former President Muhammadu Buhari from 2015 to 2017. He departed the APC in 2025 to join the ADC as part of the opposition coalition ahead of the 2027 general elections.
