Lt. Gen. Tukur Yusufu Buratai (Rtd), former Chief of Army Staff, has warmly commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for the approval and commencement of the massive N1.245 trillion reconstruction and dualisation of the Gombe-Biu Highway.
Describing the project as a game-changer for Nigeria’s North-East region, Gen. Buratai praised the initiative as one of the most ambitious infrastructure developments in the area in recent decades.
“The approval and flag-off of the Gombe-Biu Highway dualisation project clearly demonstrate President Tinubu’s commitment to the development and transformation of the North-East,” Buratai stated. “This vital corridor will significantly boost economic activities, improve connectivity, enhance road safety, and contribute to better security across the region.”
The 125-kilometre dual carriageway, originally built in 1962, is being upgraded using modern rigid pavement technology. The project is expected to drastically reduce travel time between Gombe and Borno States, stimulate trade and commerce, and unlock new opportunities for communities along the route.
Gen. Buratai, a respected statesman from the North-East, called on all stakeholders to support the successful execution of the project, expressing strong confidence in its long-term positive impact on the region.
This major infrastructure intervention aligns with the Tinubu administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which prioritizes the rehabilitation of critical national assets, especially in previously underserved and insecurity-affected areas.
