President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved 27 major road construction, rehabilitation, and dualisation projects valued at over ₦3.9 trillion, spanning 15 states across Nigeria’s six geopolitical zones.
The approval, granted by the Federal Executive Council (FEC), underscores the administration’s commitment to the Renewed Hope Agenda through massive infrastructure investment aimed at improving connectivity, boosting economic activities, facilitating trade, and enhancing the quality of life for citizens. The projects cover Adamawa, Benue, Cross River, Ebonyi, Ekiti, Kogi, Kwara, Lagos, Niger, Ondo, Osun, Oyo, Plateau, Taraba, and Yobe states.
Key highlights include: A ₦1.8325 trillion, 409 km dual carriageway project in Niger State awarded to the Dangote Group under a tax credit scheme. Dualisation of the Ilorin-Ogbomoso Road at ₦276 billion. Reconstruction of failed sections of the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway using durable reinforced concrete pavement. Various other critical rehabilitation and construction works designed to address long-standing infrastructure deficits.
Minister of Works, Senator David Umahi, who announced the approvals, emphasized that these projects will create thousands of direct and indirect jobs, stimulate local economies, and support the government’s goal of equitable development nationwide. He noted ongoing progress on legacy projects such as the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway and others.
President Tinubu’s directive for accelerated implementation reflects his vision of a modern, efficient, and integrated national road network that drives sustainable growth and positions Nigeria as a hub for regional commerce.
The Federal Ministry of Works will oversee execution in collaboration with state governments and contractors to ensure timely delivery, quality standards, and transparency.
