Former President of Nigeria, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo (GCFR), has urged political leaders and aspirants, particularly the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate in Ogun State, Hon. Ladi Adebutu, to align their personal ambitions with God’s divine purpose for effective and impactful leadership.

Chief Obasanjo gave the charge on Monday when he received a delegation of key PDP candidates from Ogun State, including Adebutu and other notable party figures, at his residence. The meeting, which focused on seeking blessings and counsel ahead of the 2027 governorship race, provided an opportunity for the elder statesman to share profound wisdom drawn from faith, experience, and national service.

“Submit your ambition to God’s will. Align your plans with God’s purpose,” Obasanjo admonished the aspirants. He emphasized the need for wisdom, humility, and divine guidance in the pursuit of political office, stressing that true leadership must transcend personal or partisan interests to serve the greater good of the people and the state.

The former President, known for his outspoken views on governance and spirituality, blessed the aspirations of the PDP team while cautioning them to pursue their goals with integrity, prayerfulness, and a commitment to God-ordained leadership that can help navigate Nigeria’s challenges. He highlighted the importance of leaders who prioritize national development, moral uprightness, and service over mere ambition.

Hon. Ladi Adebutu, the PDP governorship candidate, expressed gratitude for the audience and counsel, describing it as a significant boost to his vision for Ogun State. The delegation affirmed their dedication to people-oriented governance in line with the values espoused by Chief Obasanjo.

Chief Obasanjo’s message comes at a critical time as political activities intensify ahead of future elections, serving as a reminder that sustainable progress in Nigeria requires alignment between human ambition and divine direction.
