President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has congratulated Ekiti State Governor Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji on his decisive re-election victory in Saturday’s governorship election, describing the outcome as a historic vote of confidence in purposeful leadership and continuity.
In a statement issued on Sunday by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, President Tinubu hailed the peaceful conduct of the poll and commended the people of Ekiti State for exercising their democratic rights in an orderly manner. He noted that Governor Oyebanji’s overwhelming victory makes him the first governor in the history of Ekiti State to secure back-to-back re-election.
“With his overwhelming victory in the election, Oyebanji has emerged as the first governor in the history of Ekiti State to win re-election back-to-back,” President Tinubu said. The President praised Oyebanji’s administration for delivering key developmental projects in infrastructure, education, agriculture, healthcare, and youth empowerment.
President Tinubu urged all candidates who contested the election to set aside political differences and rally behind Governor Oyebanji for the greater good of Ekiti State. “It is now time to rally round Oyebanji in the task of taking Ekiti to the next level of governance,” the statement added.
He further called on Governor Oyebanji to remain magnanimous in victory and to continue carrying all Ekiti people along as he consolidates on his achievements in the next four years.
Governor Oyebanji was declared winner by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) after polling 319,224 votes, a landslide victory that underscores strong support for his leadership.
