The Management of the Federal University Oye-Ekiti (FUOYE) has suspended two students with immediate effect over allegations of cyberbullying and involvement in the leaking and circulation of a private video belonging to the institution’s suspended former Students’ Union Government (SUG) President, Mr. James Iyanuoluwa Adio.
The affected students are Alao Iyanuoluwa Odunayo and Olawale Abiodun Samuel. According to the university, the duo allegedly conspired to cyberbully Adio by posting and circulating details of his private life online after he failed to meet certain financial demands made by them.
In a statement issued by the university management, FUOYE strongly condemned the actions, describing them as a deliberate attempt to dent the image of the institution and violate the privacy of an individual. The suspensions are pending the outcome of a full investigation into the matter.
This development follows the earlier suspension of Mr. James Iyanuoluwa Adio (along with some senior officials) over separate allegations of involvement in the unauthorized collection of levies from students.
The university management reiterated its commitment to upholding discipline, ethical conduct, and the protection of the rights and privacy of all members of the university community. It warned that such acts of cyberbullying and unauthorized dissemination of private materials will not be tolerated.
Further investigations are ongoing, and the university will provide updates as appropriate. Students and staff are advised to maintain decorum and avoid actions that could bring the institution into disrepute.
