The Federal Government of Nigeria has reaffirmed its unwavering commitment to transforming the country’s aviation industry into a safe, efficient, and globally competitive sector through strategic international collaborations and the acquisition of modern aircraft.

In a renewed push for sustainable growth, the government is prioritising the introduction of newer, safer, and more fuel-efficient aircraft fleets. This initiative is being executed through strengthened partnerships with leading aircraft manufacturers, financiers, lessors, and Nigerian airlines. The move is expected to significantly enhance operational safety standards, reduce maintenance costs, lower carbon emissions, and improve overall service delivery to passengers.

Speaking on the development, the Honourable Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development noted that these partnerships represent a critical milestone in the government’s aviation sector recovery and modernisation agenda. “By fostering deeper collaboration across the aviation value chain, we are not only addressing current infrastructure and fleet challenges but also laying a solid foundation for long-term industry growth, job creation, and economic diversification,” the Minister said.

The Federal Government’s strategy includes: Facilitating access to cutting-edge aircraft technologies through strategic alliances with global Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs). Working closely with international financiers and aircraft lessors to create favourable leasing and financing frameworks for Nigerian carriers.

Supporting local airlines in fleet renewal programmes to meet international safety and environmental benchmarks. Promoting knowledge transfer, capacity building, and maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) capabilities within Nigeria.

These efforts align with broader national goals of improving connectivity, boosting tourism, facilitating trade, and positioning Nigeria as a major aviation hub in West Africa.

The government remains committed to creating an enabling environment that attracts quality investments while ensuring strict adherence to global regulatory standards set by the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) and other relevant bodies.
