The National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) has joined forces with leading Information Technology firms to drive the adoption of secure, robust digital government services across Nigeria.

This strategic collaboration aims to strengthen the nation’s digital identity ecosystem, enhance data protection, and ensure seamless, trustworthy e-government platforms that serve citizens efficiently while safeguarding sensitive information against cyber threats.

As Nigeria accelerates its digital transformation agenda, NIMC and its technology partners are prioritizing cutting-edge security protocols, including advanced encryption, multi-factor authentication, biometric integration, and real-time threat monitoring. The initiative supports key government services such as digital identity verification, e-passports, tax administration, social welfare distribution, and online public services.

Director General/CEO of NIMC, Engr. Abisoye Coker-Odusote, said: “Secure digital identity is the foundation of modern governance. Our partnership with innovative IT firms will help build a resilient infrastructure that protects citizens’ data, reduces identity fraud, and enables efficient service delivery. We are committed to a secure digital Nigeria where every citizen can transact and access services with confidence.”

Representatives from the partnering IT firms highlighted their commitment to leveraging global best practices in cybersecurity and digital innovation. The collaboration will include capacity building for government agencies, public awareness campaigns on digital security, and the deployment of scalable solutions tailored to Nigeria’s unique needs.

Key objectives of the partnership include:

Strengthening the National Identity Database against unauthorized access and breaches.

Facilitating secure interoperability between government platforms.

Promoting the use of digital identity for inclusive service delivery.

Enhancing compliance with data protection regulations such as the Nigeria Data Protection Act.

Driving innovation in biometric and digital verification technologies.

This initiative aligns with the Federal Government’s broader digital economy goals, including the National Digital Economy Policy and Strategy, aimed at positioning Nigeria as a leader in secure digital governance in Africa.

Stakeholders, including government ministries, private sector players, and civil society organizations, have welcomed the development, noting its potential to boost public trust in digital services and stimulate economic growth through reduced fraud and improved efficiency.
