Oyo State Governor, Engineer Seyi Makinde, has declared the rehabilitation and reintegration of the recently rescued schoolchildren and teachers from Oriire Local Government Area as the top priority of his administration following their safe return after 56 days in captivity.
In a statement issued shortly after the victims’ rescue, Governor Makinde expressed profound gratitude for their safe release and described the development as a “big relief” for the families, the state, and the entire nation. The pupils and teachers were abducted on May 15, 2026, from schools in the Oriire area.
“Our priority now is to ensure they are reunited with their families and support their rehabilitation after this traumatic experience,” Governor Makinde stated. “We will provide all necessary medical, psychological, and social support to help them recover and reintegrate fully into society.”
The Governor commended the gallant efforts of the Nigerian security agencies including the military, police, Department of State Services (DSS), and other operatives for their commitment, sacrifices, and professionalism that led to the successful rescue operation. He also appreciated President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his unwavering support and leadership in ensuring the safe return of the victims.
Governor Makinde noted that the rescued individuals are receiving immediate care and will be reunited with their loved ones as soon as possible. He appealed for continued prayers and support from the people of Oyo State as the government works to restore normalcy and provide long-term healing for the affected families.
The Governor reiterated his administration’s commitment to the safety and security of all residents, particularly in rural and vulnerable communities, and pledged to strengthen preventive measures to avoid future incidents.
“This is a moment of joy and reflection. We thank God for bringing them back alive and remain focused on their full recovery,” he added.
