The Anambra State Government has unveiled an ambitious infrastructure initiative to construct a second airport and an adjoining industrial park in Ndikelionwu, Orumba North Local Government Area. This landmark project is part of Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s broader vision to transform Anambra into a smart mega city and unlock untapped economic potential across the region.

The announcement was made during a site inspection led by Engr. Martins Emeka Nwafor, Managing Director of Chinua Achebe International Cargo Airport and Chairman of the newly formed Airport and Aerotropolis Committee. According to Nwafor, the new development will integrate aviation infrastructure with commercial, residential, and logistics facilities to create a dynamic airport-driven city.

“This project is a game changer. It will catalyze industrialization, attract investment, and create thousands of jobs for our people,” said Nwafor during the visit.

The proposed aerotropolis will complement the existing Chinua Achebe International Cargo Airport in Umeri, which was inaugurated in 2021. By establishing multiple aviation hubs, the state aims to enhance connectivity, boost trade, and position Anambra as a strategic economic corridor in southeastern Nigeria.

Community leaders, including Hon. Fabian Nwosu and Hon. Ifesinachi Chukwurah Onwurah of the Ndikelionwu Welfare Association, expressed gratitude to the government and pledged full support for the project. Geologists and geophysicists from the Anambra State Solid Minerals Development Company Limited were also present to conduct geomapping of the site.
