The Idoma Area Traditional Council (IATC) has officially dismissed recent media reports and public speculation suggesting that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu was among individuals affected by the suspension of chieftaincy titles in Idoma land.
In a statement issued by Adegbe Uloko, Secretary to the paramount ruler, His Royal Majesty Agaba-Idu (Dr) Elaigwu Odogbo John, the council clarified that “at no time did the list submitted to the Idoma Area Traditional Council contain the name of the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria or that of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation.”
The council emphasized that the directive issued on August 19 and reaffirmed on September 2 was a blanket suspension of all chieftaincy title conferments across intermediate traditional councils within Idoma land. This measure was taken to ensure proper vetting and uphold the integrity of the traditional institution.
“The declaration was a general directive suspending all conferment of chieftaincy titles until duly considered and approved by the Idoma Area Traditional Council,” Uloko stated.
The IATC reiterated its commitment to preserving the sanctity of the throne, safeguarding cultural values, and preventing political interference in traditional matters. It stressed that the decision was not targeted at any individual and urged the public to disregard misleading narratives.
