In a landmark development signaling renewed international confidence, the United Kingdom has officially lifted its travel ban on Kaduna State, upgrading the region from the “Red” to the “Amber” category in its foreign travel advisory.
The announcement was made during the signing of the Kaduna Mutual Accountability Framework (KaMAF) between the Kaduna State Government and the UK’s Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO). The agreement, signed by Governor Uba Sani and UK Development Director Cynthia Rowe, marks a new chapter in bilateral cooperation focused on governance, education, health, agriculture, and institutional reform.
“This is a major vote of confidence in Kaduna’s resilience and reform agenda,” said Governor Sani. “We’ve made significant strides in restoring stability, improving healthcare, expanding education, and boosting agricultural productivity. The UK’s decision strengthens our resolve to deliver inclusive growth for all citizens.”
The UK had placed Kaduna on its “Red” list in 2022 due to escalating insecurity, including banditry and insurgent attacks. The reclassification to “Amber” reflects substantial improvements in the state’s security landscape, particularly in rural areas. British nationals can now travel to Kaduna with fewer restrictions, though caution is still advised in certain zones.
Cynthia Rowe praised Kaduna’s progress: “This reclassification is not just symbolic—it sends a strong signal to investors and development partners that Kaduna is open for business. We’re proud to support the state through KaMAF, which is about real action and inclusive development.”
The UK also announced Kaduna will host the SPRiNG programme (Strengthening Peace, Resilience and Inclusive Governance), aimed at addressing conflict drivers and promoting social cohesion.
