The Armani Group announces with profound sorrow the passing of its founder and visionary, Giorgio Armani, who died peacefully at his home in Milan at the age of 91 following an undisclosed illness.
Known globally as the architect of modern elegance, Armani revolutionized fashion with his minimalist aesthetic, relaxed tailoring, and timeless sophistication. From his groundbreaking debut in 1975 to his final days as CEO and creative director, Armani remained a tireless force in the industry.
“Il Signor Armani,” as he was affectionately called by colleagues, “worked until his final days, dedicating himself to the company, the collections, and the many ongoing and future projects,” the Armani Group stated.
Born in Piacenza in 1934, Armani began his career in medicine before pivoting to fashion, where he quickly rose to prominence. His designs graced red carpets, transformed business attire, and redefined luxury across clothing, fragrances, home furnishings, and hospitality.
At the time of his death, Armani’s empire was valued at over $10 billion, and his personal net worth was estimated between $9 and $12 billion. He leaves behind no direct heirs but entrusted the future of his brand to his nieces Silvana and Roberta Armani, nephew Andrea Camerana, and longtime collaborator Leo Dell’Orco.
