His Royal Majesty, Omo N’Oba N’Edo, Uku Akpolokpolo, Ewuare II, CFR, the Oba of Benin, has officially called upon all sons and daughters of the Benin Kingdom—and by extension, all residents of Edo State—to observe a solemn two-week period of fasting and prayer from September 15 to September 28, 2025.
This spiritual directive, announced through the Obamedo of Benin, Chief Efosa Igbinomwanhia, is rooted in the kingdom’s age-long tradition of invoking divine protection and blessings ahead of the annual new yam festival. The Oba emphasized that the exercise is intended to ward off evil, promote peace, and ensure a bountiful harvest across the land.
In his message, the Oba offered prayers to God Almighty and the royal ancestors, asking for protection from sudden death, peace in homes and communities, and happiness for all who partake in the spiritual exercise.
“This is in line with our age-long tradition... to fast and pray to God Almighty and the royal ancestors for bountiful harvest and to shield us away from sudden death and for peace and tranquillity in our individual homes, families, state and country at large,” the statement read.
The palace encourages all faiths to join in this collective act of devotion, reinforcing the shared values of harmony and resilience that define the people of Edo.
