The Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) is pleased to announce the resumption of train services along the Port Harcourt–Aba corridor, effective Tuesday, September 9, 2025, following a brief suspension for routine maintenance and technical repairs.

In a statement issued by NRC Managing Director, Dr. Kayode Opeifa, the Corporation reaffirmed its commitment to delivering safe, reliable, and customer-friendly rail services under the Renewed Hope Agenda and Rail Revitalisation Programme.

“We deeply regret the inconvenience caused by the temporary suspension and thank our passengers for their patience. Our engineers have worked tirelessly to ensure the train is fully restored and fit for service,” said Dr. Opeifa.

The disruption, which occurred on Wednesday, September 3, was due to a mechanical fault that halted the train near Imo River. A rescue locomotive was promptly deployed, and affected passengers were either safely returned or advised to seek refunds or replacement rides at NRC stations in Port Harcourt and Aba.

The Port Harcourt–Aba route is a vital link for commuters and traders across Rivers and Abia States, serving stations at Port Harcourt, Elelenwo, Obuzor, Umugo, and Aba. It forms part of the broader Eastern Narrow Gauge Railway Project, financed through a $3 billion agreement with Chinese partners.
