The Oyo State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Youth League today issued a strong condemnation of Governor Seyi Makinde's pursuit of a 2027 presidential bid, accusing him of abandoning critical governance responsibilities in Oyo State to chase what they described as an "unrealistic ambition."
In a statement released by Oyo State Coordinator Ayobami Dagilogba, the group highlighted a series of alleged failures under Makinde's People's Democratic Party (PDP) administration, arguing that the governor's focus on national politics has come at the expense of the state's development and the welfare of its citizens.
"Despite being in office, no model schools have been built, depriving students of quality education. The exodus of medical personnel from government hospitals has compromised healthcare delivery, leaving citizens to suffer. The lack of local government autonomy has stifled grassroots development, while farmers struggle to access support and resources," the statement read.
The APC Youth League further criticized Makinde's recent distribution of multimillion-naira cars to selected individuals, labeling it a "Father Christmas" gesture that exemplifies misplaced priorities. "This act of extravagance starkly contrasts with the state’s developmental challenges. The people of Oyo State deserve better governance, and it’s essential for leaders to prioritise their needs and welfare. The PDP government’s performance under Governor Makinde’s leadership has fallen short of expectations, and citizens are demanding change."
Dagilogba emphasized the need for the APC to strengthen its internal structures ahead of the 2027 elections, calling for the inclusion of young people in party governance to harness their energy and creativity. The group urged genuine reconciliation among aggrieved members and warned against any attempts at imposition, insisting on free and fair internal democracy to position the party for victory.
"We must revisit past mistakes, learn genuine lessons, and focus on strengthening the party rather than promoting narrow, individual interests," Dagilogba stated. "The APC in Oyo State has both the structure and capacity to consign the PDP-led administration to political oblivion, but not while internal crises continue to weaken our prospects."
In a show of solidarity with national leadership, the APC Youth League announced plans for a "Tinubu Loyalty Walk" on October 4, 2025, to demonstrate support for President Bola Tinubu and the progressive agenda.
The group called on President Tinubu, the APC National Working Committee, and the Oyo State Working Committee to address these issues with utmost seriousness to ensure the party's success in 2027 and beyond.
