In a decisive move to combat insecurity and enhance rapid response capabilities across the state, the Sokoto State Government has officially handed over 10 new Hilux patrol vans and 150 motorcycles to security agencies operating in high-risk areas.
The distribution ceremony, held in Sokoto on Friday, was presided over by the Secretary to the State Government, Muhammad Bello Sifawa, who emphasized that the intervention aligns with Governor Ahmed Aliyu’s 9-point agenda, which places security at the forefront of governance priorities.
“These 10 vehicles come in addition to the 170 patrol vans earlier procured and distributed since the beginning of this administration,” Sifawa stated. “We will continue to work hand in hand with security operatives to rid Sokoto of criminal elements.”
Security agencies welcomed the support, with Commissioner of Police Ahmed Musa assuring the public that the vehicles and motorcycles would be deployed strictly for operational use. He called on residents to complement government efforts by sharing timely intelligence and remaining vigilant.
This latest deployment is part of a broader strategy to tackle banditry, cattle rustling, and kidnappings, particularly in remote communities where mobility and access have been major challenges. The government reiterated its commitment to equipping operatives with the tools needed to secure lives and property, while also fostering community collaboration.
