Former Senator and media entrepreneur Ben Murray-Bruce has officially defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), citing confidence in President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s economic vision and reform agenda.
In a statement shared via his verified social media accounts, Murray-Bruce praised Tinubu’s leadership, describing him as “a man driven by results, not applause.” He emphasized that Nigeria, for the first time, has a president who treats the economy not as a political slogan but as “a living organism that must be disciplined, deregulated, and allowed to breathe.”
Murray-Bruce, who represented Bayelsa East Senatorial District from 2015 to 2019, said his decision was not politically motivated but rooted in his belief that “the painful reforms we face today are the very foundation of tomorrow’s prosperity.” He commended Tinubu’s push toward a free-market economy, stating that it rewards innovation and hard work rather than dependency and distortion.
His defection coincided with that of Bayelsa State Governor Douye Diri, who also announced his move to the APC on the same day, signaling a broader political realignment in the South-South region.
Murray-Bruce added, “I have known President Tinubu since 1998. I know the man’s mind, his courage, and his conviction. Today, I can boldly say he is on the right track.”
