Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has declared that several governors who previously criticized him for supporting the All Progressives Congress (APC) have now defected to the ruling party themselves, calling the shift a vindication of his political stance.
Wike made the remarks during the flag-off ceremony for the construction of the main carriageways of the Outer Southern Expressway in Abuja. Addressing the media and dignitaries present, he stated: “I have been watching on daily television and social media, people who said I want to destabilize the party, I am working for the APC. All of them are now in the APC. So, which means if it is true, they should commend me for working for where they are heading.”
The former Rivers State governor has faced criticism from members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) since accepting a ministerial appointment under President Bola Tinubu’s APC-led administration in 2023. Despite remaining officially within the PDP, Wike has consistently defended his decision, citing national interest and development priorities.
His latest comments come amid a wave of defections from the PDP to the APC, including several high-profile governors and lawmakers. Wike emphasized that those who once accused him of betrayal are now embracing the very party they condemned, suggesting that his foresight and political strategy were justified.
