The Federal Government of Nigeria has announced an ambitious plan to generate ₦160 billion from wheat production during the 2025/2026 dry season. This initiative, unveiled by the Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Senator Abubakar Kyari, underscores the government’s commitment to strengthening food security, reducing reliance on imports, and empowering local farmers.

Speaking at the launch, Minister Kyari emphasized the importance of the program in advancing Nigeria’s agricultural agenda. “This initiative is designed to boost domestic wheat production, reduce our dependence on imports, and empower smallholder farmers who form the backbone of our food system.”

He noted that the program builds on the success of the 2023/2024 dry season scheme, which registered over 107,000 farmers nationwide.

The National Agricultural Growth and Agro Pocket Project (NAGSAP) is a flagship program designed to support smallholder farmers with access to inputs, financing, and technical expertise. It remains a cornerstone of Nigeria’s agricultural transformation agenda, ensuring sustainable growth in crop production and rural development.
