The Plateau State Government has categorically denied widespread rumors alleging that Governor Caleb Mutfwang has defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the Young Progressives Party (YPP). In an official statement released Friday, the Director of Press and Public Affairs to the Governor, Dr. Gyang Bere, described the claims as “a blatant lie” and the product of “desperate mischief makers” seeking to mislead the public and sow political confusion.
“Governor Mutfwang has not defected to the Young Progressives Party,” Dr. Bere stated. “This is a shameless fabrication aimed at creating unnecessary tension and distracting from the administration’s ongoing development agenda.”
The clarification comes in response to a viral social media report suggesting that the governor had switched allegiance following an alleged failed attempt to join the All Progressives Congress (APC). The government emphasized that such reports are entirely false and lack any basis in fact.
Dr. Bere reaffirmed that Governor Mutfwang remains a committed member of the PDP and continues to focus on delivering good governance to the people of Plateau State. “Where and when there is any change in political status, the Governor will use official and verified communication channels to inform the people of Plateau State and other well-wishers,” he added.
The statement urged citizens to disregard the falsehood and remain vigilant against politically motivated misinformation. It also called on media outlets and the general public to verify information through official sources before dissemination.
Governor Mutfwang, who has been at the helm of Plateau State’s leadership since 2023, has consistently reiterated his dedication to inclusive governance, peacebuilding, and infrastructural development across the state.
