The office of the presidency in Guinea today said that Mamady Doumbouya will take the oath as president on January 17. This follows his big win in the election last month, where he got 86.72% of the votes.
The Supreme Court confirmed the results on Sunday, making Doumbouya the official president elect. The election on December 28 was the first since the 2021 coup that brought Doumbouya to power as interim leader.
"We are ready for a new chapter in Guinea's history," a spokesperson for the presidency said. "President Doumbouya will work to bring unity and growth to our country."
The African Union has praised the smooth running of the election and congratulated Doumbouya on his victory. The swearing-in event will take place in Conakry. More details will be shared soon.
