Governor Alex Otti of Abia State has given a firm assurance to traders and shop owners in Aba that no legitimate trader will lose their shop as a result of the ongoing remodelling and redevelopment projects at key markets, including the iconic Ariaria International Market and Ekeoha Market.

The Governor made this pledge while addressing concerns surrounding the transformation initiatives aimed at modernizing these commercial hubs to international standards.

He emphasized that the state government remains fully committed to protecting the interests of genuine shop owners and ensuring minimal disruption to their businesses during the phased reconstruction.

"Original shop owners will be given the first right of refusal before any reallocation decisions are made," Governor Otti stated.

"I have issued clear instructions to the contractors and relevant authorities to prioritize existing legitimate owners. If you own a shop legitimately, you will retain it under the new modern structures. Any fears to the contrary are no longer tenable."

The remodelling projects, executed in phases to avoid complete shutdowns and allow continued trading, involve partnerships with developers such as Checkbest International Limited for Ariaria sections and others for Ekeoha.

To support displaced traders during construction, the government has already constructed and fitted over 400 alternative shops for temporary relocation, ensuring business continuity.

The initiatives are part of Governor Otti's broader vision to restore Aba's status as a premier commercial and industrial center in Nigeria and West Africa.

By improving infrastructure, safety, sanitation, and overall trading environment, the projects are expected to boost economic activities, attract more investments, and create sustainable opportunities for traders and the wider community.

The Abia State Government calls on all stakeholders including market leaders, traders, and developers to continue cooperating fully to achieve these shared goals.

The administration remains dedicated to people-centered development that uplifts livelihoods without displacing rightful owners.
