The leadership of the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (PFN), Abia State chapter, has passionately appealed to His Excellency, Dr. Alex Chioma Otti, OFR, Governor of Abia State, not to retire from active politics after completing his second term in office in 2031.
The call was made during a courtesy visit to the Governor at the Government House in Umuahia on Tuesday by a delegation of clergymen and PFN leaders, led by the immediate past State Chairman, Archbishop Chikezie Elekwa.
Governor Otti has on several occasions publicly expressed his intention to step away from politics upon finishing his tenure as governor, emphasizing a desire to retire from active political engagement after serving the people of Abia State.
Speaking on behalf of the fellowship, Archbishop Elekwa acknowledged the Governor's remarkable achievements and the positive transformation witnessed in Abia under his leadership. He urged the Governor to allow the people of Abia to determine his future political path rather than making a unilateral decision to exit public service.
“Please, Your Excellency, do not decide to quit on your own. Let the people decide,” Archbishop Elekwa said. “You cannot serve for eight years and then just disappear. Your good works will speak for you, and the light God has introduced through you will continue to shine brighter.”
The PFN delegation further expressed strong confidence in Governor Otti's performance, assuring him of widespread support ahead of the 2027 governorship election.
They emphasized that his record of accomplishments would naturally secure public backing, potentially making intensive campaigning unnecessary as the fellowship mobilizes its members and the broader Christian community across the state.
In response, Governor Otti expressed deep appreciation for the PFN's continued prayers, steadfast support since his political journey began in 2015, and their role in his emergence and governance. He noted that any future decisions regarding his political career would be guided by personal conviction and prevailing circumstances.
The Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria, Abia State chapter, reaffirmed its unwavering commitment to supporting Governor Otti and his administration in building a greater Abia State.
