In a demonstration of compassion and commitment to the welfare of Edo citizens, Governor Monday Okpebholo has personally settled the medical bills of victims of a recent fire incident in Ekpoma, including a severely injured man and his pregnant wife, along with other patients undergoing treatment at the Irrua Specialist Teaching Hospital in Irrua.
The governor's intervention came during a visit to the hospital, where he met with patients facing financial hardships due to prolonged medical care.
A particular focus was on a couple affected by the Ekpoma fire: the husband, who sustained severe burns and is receiving ongoing treatment, and his pregnant wife. Governor Okpebholo ensured their bills were fully offset, relieving the family of significant financial burden during this challenging time.
Beyond the fire victims, the governor extended support to additional patients in the ward who were struggling to cover their medical expenses. He directed the settlement of their bills as well, emphasizing that no Edo citizen should be denied quality healthcare due to inability to pay.
"We have agreed with the hospital management to pay the bills and that of other patients we met in the ward. So they have no reason to cry over unpaid bills again," Governor Okpebholo stated during the visit. "This administration is committed to supporting our people in times of need, especially when they face health crises arising from unfortunate incidents like fires."
This action underscores the Okpebholo administration's priority on healthcare accessibility and responsive governance. The state government continues to collaborate with healthcare institutions across Edo to improve services and provide timely assistance to vulnerable residents.
The Edo State Government urges residents to remain vigilant with fire safety measures and to report any emergencies promptly. The administration remains dedicated to building a healthier, more resilient Edo State for all citizens.
