A tragic road accident claimed the life of a male pedestrian after he was knocked down by a Toyota Coaster bus at Imowo, along the Imowo-Ibadan Road inward Ijebu Ode in Ogun State.
The fatal incident occurred at approximately 4:45 p.m. on Sunday, May 17, 2026, resulting in significant traffic congestion along the route due to the obstruction caused by the bus.
According to the Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency (TRACE), operatives along with police officers from the Obalende Division were swiftly deployed to the scene to manage traffic, conduct rescue operations, and prevent secondary incidents. Eyewitness accounts indicate that the pedestrian attempted to cross the road without properly checking oncoming traffic. The situation was further complicated by ongoing road rehabilitation works, which had diverted traffic to a single lane outward Ijebu Ode.
No other injuries were reported in the incident. TRACE operatives assisted in conveying the deceased to an OGSAS ambulance, after which the body was transported to the General Hospital mortuary in Ijebu Ode. The involved Toyota Coaster bus was evacuated from the scene and moved to the Police Area Command, Igbeba, for further investigation. Normal traffic flow has since been restored.
Babatunde Akinbiyi, TRACE spokesperson, emphasized the importance of road safety and vigilance, particularly in areas with traffic diversions and construction.
This incident serves as a somber reminder of the need for heightened caution by both pedestrians and motorists, especially on busy highways undergoing rehabilitation.
