Political tensions are rising in Osun State ahead of the August 15, 2026 governorship election as Governor Ademola Adeleke and the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate, Asiwaju Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji, exchanged accusations regarding the alleged sale of Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs).

Governor Adeleke’s camp has raised concerns over coordinated attempts to buy PVCs and harvest voter data, describing such activities as a threat to the integrity of the electoral process. The Governor urged security agencies and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to investigate and prevent any form of voter suppression or manipulation.

In response, Oyebamiji warned residents against selling their PVCs, describing the voter card as a powerful tool for determining the future of the state. He appealed to eligible voters not to trade away their democratic rights and called on religious and community leaders to sensitize the electorate on the importance of safeguarding their PVCs.

The exchange highlights the high stakes of the upcoming poll, with both sides emphasizing the need for a free, fair, and credible election. Governor Adeleke reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to democratic principles and transparent governance, while Oyebamiji promised inclusive development if elected.

Stakeholders have called for calm and urged all political actors to focus on issue-based campaigns rather than acrimonious exchanges.

The Osun State Government and the APC candidate have both appealed to the electorate to remain vigilant and actively participate in the electoral process.
