Vice President Senator Kashim Shettima has officially launched the $500 million Niger Delta Agricultural Development and Investment Fund, describing it as a transformative initiative to unlock the region’s vast agricultural potential and drive sustainable economic growth.

The launch took place at the inaugural Niger Delta Agricultural Development and Investment Summit held at the State House Banquet Hall in Abuja. The Vice President inaugurated the Niger Delta Agricultural Development and Investment Council, which he will chair, with the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) serving as the secretariat.

Speaking at the event, Vice President Shettima emphasized that agriculture remains the foundation of Nigeria’s long-term economic growth, food security, and stability. He noted that the fund will operate as a commercially viable, returns-driven investment vehicle spanning the entire agricultural value chain  including aquaculture, palm oil, cassava, cocoa, rice, horticulture, marine resources, and livestock.

“The launch of this investment fund marks a significant step toward unlocking the region’s agricultural potential, creating jobs, attracting private sector investment, and improving food production across the Niger Delta,” Vice President Shettima stated.

The $500 million fund is expected to support high-impact agricultural projects, boost productivity, strengthen value chains, reduce dependence on crude oil, and position the Niger Delta as a major agricultural hub in Nigeria. It aligns with the Tinubu administration’s broader agenda of diversifying the economy and ensuring national food security.

The Vice President commended stakeholders, including the NDDC and private sector partners, for their collaboration and urged investors to seize the opportunities presented by this initiative.

This landmark fund represents a bold commitment by the Federal Government to the development of the Niger Delta, fostering peace, prosperity, and inclusive growth for the people of the region.
