In a significant effort to support local agriculture and help farmers recover from recent economic challenges, Hon. James Faleke, Member of the House of Representatives representing Ikeja Federal Constituency and Chairman of the House Committee on Finance, has distributed agricultural inputs valued at over N150 million to 165 farmers in Kogi State. The initiative, which includes essential farming tools, training, and cash assistance, aims to boost productivity, enhance livelihoods, and address the impacts of falling food prices on rural communities.

The distribution event, held in Lokoja on Saturday, marks a key milestone in Hon. Faleke's ongoing agricultural empowerment project, launched in June 2025. In collaboration with the Federal College of Fisheries and Marine Technology, Lagos, and Bright-tech Resources Limited, the program spans Kogi's three senatorial districts. Beneficiaries received a range of critical inputs, including sprayers, herbicides, high-quality seeds, liquid organic fertilizers, and direct cash support. Additionally, the project features hands-on training in best agronomic practices for cassava and fisheries value chains, as well as the establishment of demonstration farms across over 150 hectares of land, complete with motorized boreholes in select locations.

"While the federal government's efforts under President Bola Tinubu to stabilize food prices have benefited consumers nationwide, our farmers in Kogi have faced significant hardships in selling their produce profitably," said Hon. James Faleke. "This intervention is designed to equip them with the resources and knowledge they need to overcome these challenges, improve efficiency, and contribute more robustly to Nigeria's food security. By investing in our farmers, we are investing in the future of our communities and the nation's economy."

Dr. Tunde Arosanyin, Consultant to Hon. Faleke’s Agricultural Project, highlighted the comprehensive benefits of the initiative: "The project provides not just material support but also capacity-building through targeted training and practical demonstrations. Farmers are gaining invaluable skills that will enhance their productivity and resilience. With over N150 million invested, we expect this to have a lasting positive impact on Kogi's agricultural sector and the well-being of its people."

One beneficiary, Mr. Mohammed Haruna from Lokoja Local Government Area, expressed his gratitude: "This training has opened our eyes to best practices in cassava farming and fisheries. Hon. Faleke's support is transforming our livelihoods and giving us hope for better yields and income in the coming seasons."

Kogi State, renowned for its production of cassava, rice, maize, yam, and fish, plays a vital role in Nigeria's agricultural landscape. However, farmers have long grappled with issues such as insecurity, inadequate storage facilities, and limited access to inputs. Hon. Faleke's project directly addresses these gaps, fostering sustainable growth and economic empowerment.
