The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) today released former Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, SAN, following an extensive interrogation session at its headquarters in Abuja. The session addressed allegations related to multimillion-dollar deals during the Buhari administration.

EFCC Chairman Ola Olukoyede confirmed that Malami honored the agency's invitation promptly on Friday. Officials questioned him for several hours on matters including asset recovery and potential irregularities. The agency granted administrative bail after Malami provided two permanent secretaries as sureties.

"Mr. Malami cooperated during the interrogation, and we have scheduled further engagements to clarify outstanding issues," stated an EFCC spokesperson. "This probe underscores our commitment to transparency and accountability in public service."

Malami, in a social media post early Saturday, described the interaction as successful. He expressed readiness to continue cooperating with the EFCC to uncover the truth behind the allegations. "The engagement was productive, and I appreciate the professional conduct of the agency," Malami added.

The investigation stems from reports of controversial deals, including asset recoveries during Malami's tenure from 2015 to 2023. EFCC emphasized that no charges have been filed yet, but the inquiry remains ongoing.

The Commission assures Nigerians of its dedication to fighting corruption without fear or favor. Further updates will be provided as the investigation progresses.
