The Nigerian Army has issued a statement regarding the ambush that occurred near Sabon Gari in Damboa Local Government Area, Borno State, involving Boko Haram and ISWAP insurgents.
According to reports, the terrorists, lying in wait along the convoy route, opened fire on a mixed convoy of soldiers and CJTF members heading toward Bongry. The ambush resulted in the deaths of two soldiers and two CJTF operatives, while several others sustained injuries.
The most alarming aspect of the incident was the temporary disappearance of a Brigade Commander, who was part of the convoy. The officer later returned to base on foot after evading capture, a development that has sparked concern about the scale and coordination of the insurgents’ attack.
Security sources confirmed that the convoy was attacked along Biu Road, and the insurgents were heavily armed and organised. This incident underscores the persistent threat posed by Boko Haram and ISWAP in Nigeria’s northeast.
The Nigerian Army reiterates its commitment to defeating insurgency in the northeast. While the ambush represents a significant setback, the survival of the Brigade Commander and the resilience of troops on the ground demonstrate the Army’s determination to continue operations against Boko Haram and ISWAP.
